Assalamu ‘alaikum wr. wb and good day to all

To Give, To Learn and To Pray is a continuous process in our lives, and we do it daily. We can only learn when we Give ourselves that space to pause, to listen and to embrace our strengths, weaknesses and opportunities.

As I journey through this faculty of life here at MWH, the biggest lesson I learned is the power of thought and humility that shape the way I perceive, appreciate and learn. This power of thought determines the way I connect with and the manner I relate to people and situations around me. I also learned that every person matters. We never know, ‘sometimes the worst among people creates the best of the future’ (Umar Al Khattab; companion of the prophet).

Accepting to serve an institution such as MWH, dealing with youths and families with multiple challenges is indeed essential and core to what I have learned. We have the power to decide whether to ridicule someone, to react badly or tell people what they should and should not do and we also have the power to take them by their hands through the essence of giving. This spirit of giving, truly, starts with acknowledging and being grateful for the blessings we have. As the Qur’an says :

And when your Lord proclaimed: If ye give thanks, I will give you more (Ibrahim 14: 7)

In the past 24 years, MWH has been an agent of Giving through the efforts put in by all the big-hearted pioneers, with the strong support from our parent organisation and the tireless dedication of staff. We Give, clinically and professionally, to address the life issues of residents and their families with the generous support of volunteers and well-wishers. But there’s a new chapter to look forward to. While the Home preserves the Social Work intervention, residents should look beyond merely receiving. We believe they have a lot to give too. With guidance, we want to journey with them – and with you – to Give Together back to society. Through partnerships, through our thematic quarterly campaigns, through projects and contributions, we hope to build a Home that has a deep spirit of giving and learning underneath. As we learn, we also pray that all our effort will be blessed….

And when My servants question thee concerning Me, then surely I am nigh. I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he crieth unto Me…. (Al-Baqarah 2 : 186)

Join us in this beautiful quest of giving as we create opportunities for ourselves and others, to learn from the many generous hearts that thirst for guidance; that long for love and care, often in their own inimitable way, however challenging the odds may be.

Thank you.
